Initial consultation
The next stage is what is called an initial consultation - it's where you meet with the designer in their studio or in your home. This is the beginning of the paid agreement and is where the designer will ask every question under the sun. You can ask as many questions as you want and we both go through the idea of the extend of the project, how big or small and how much is to be spend.
The designer might spurt ideas straightaway and others might keep it close to their chest - not because they are not sure but because they don't want to give you ideas that you may not cling to ad be disappointed when the full design comes around.
Development
Depending on the scale and complexity of the job, the first presentation can take anywhere from one week to six weeks. Most clients are so enthusiastic after the first meeting that the waiting time becomes almost unbearable, but please be patient.
A designer lives and breathes design: it isn't clocked into a 9am to 5pm stream. Sometimes ideas come as a burst in 24 hours, but it could also take weeks of mulling and seeking inspiration before anything becomes in mind. Inspiration for a job can come from anywhere.
Remember you want to live with this design for a long time, so the design process may seem slow initially, but it's integral to get this stage right.
