Pure Food Essentials was born out of a passion for Turmeric. Last century, at a time before Turmeric, the 'Golden Spice' was a world sensation, Peter planted the first Turmeric rhizome on our Palmwoods property. Growing organic turmeric for the local market took him to India to discover more about traditional growing practices. Being the historical origin of the international spice trade, India oozes knowledge about all things spicy.
Peter was shown the freshest spice harvests, he met other passionate growers and their families, and he witnessed the centuries-old processing practices. While we wholeheartedly encourage people to grow, market and consume what they can in their own back yards, some foods are best left to the experts! Other traditionally grown whole foods have been added to our range. Fragrant organic Basmati rice, besan and rice flours, arrowroot starch and amaranth are all now available. Sourcing high quality spices and dry goods while supporting traditional farmers has become an important part of Pure Food Essentials' ethos.

Years later, we still buy spices produced by the same growers on the same farms. And all over India whole communities are still sustained by this centuries-old trade. All our suppliers are Certified Organic and the products they grow are quality controlled all the way from the farm to your plate.
