Darwin has a population of 110,000 people, making it the city with the highest population in the Northern Territory. The two largest areas of the economy are mining and tourism, with mining and energy industry production providing over $2.5 billion per annum. These industries are making Darwin one of the fastest growing capital cities with an annual growth rate of 2.6% (2006 consensus). Alice Springs, with about 27,000 people, is the second largest city. The temperature of this city can vary by up to 28 degrees Celsius, with temperatures in the high thirties in summer, and about 7 degrees in the winter.
