Blue Gum Community School in Hornsby is an independent, co-ed early childhood school offering classes in our extended hours Preschool (3 to 5 year olds) and in our Primary School (Kindergarten to Year 2). Out of School Hours Care also available.
Blue Gum Community School values the remarkable capabilities of young children, recognising early childhood as a significant stage of life - full of discovery, learning and forming relationships. Our early childhood school provides a seamless educational journey for children from preschool through to Year 2, intentionally bringing together the rich joys of early childhood settings with the early years of formal schooling.
Our approach prioritises opportunities for children to learn with others every day through conversation, research and collaborative investigations. Our teachers design daily learning experiences and provocations for children that invite deep inquiry, questioning and reflection, as children work towards mastering new skills. We make time for thinking, reflecting, experimenting and talking through ideas.
Instead of rushing children from one activity to the next, we recognise that time spent working with a peer or a small group - to unravel a mystery or solve a problem - provides a rich resource enabling extended exploration to develop deep understandings. Through working together, thinking with others and navigating different points of view, the learning process becomes even richer; this highlights the central role of relationships within Blue Gum's approach to teaching and learning.
Blue Gum is intentionally designed as a place where young children can't wait to explore every day - from the beauty of our physical spaces to our ethos, that equips them to be confident learners, communicators and collaborators. No two days are ever the same.
Small by design, our community engenders a strong sense of belonging where children's capabilities - as individuals and as a group - are nurtured and celebrated, and their diversity and multiple perspectives are welcomed. Children at Blue Gum feel heard, known and welcomed for who they are, which lays the foundation for a lifetime of curiosity, learning and creative action.....

Epping SchoolsBoth the Preschool and the Out of School Hours Care Service are under assessment to be licensed services. When our license is formalised eligible families will be able to register to receive the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) provided by the Australian Government.
Yes, it is planned to be available for all primary children, with priority to be given to children currently enrolled at Blue Gum. Offered between 3 and 6pm each day and during term breaks, run onsite by Blue Gum educators. For Preschool children who would benefit from, or need to attend for a longer day, we ask you enrol your child in our full day program. This offers you the greatest flexibility with start and finish times, between 8am and 6pm. Eligible families can apply for Child Care Subsidy for Preschool and our Outside School Hours Care.
Blue Gum Community School does not have a school uniform.
This is certainly on the horizon, but no plans are in place at this time. 80 children is just the right size for our current building and grounds, ideal for our early childhood school.
The current Fee Schedule for Preschool and Primary places is available to download on our school website.
