Right in the heart of banana, sugar cane and dairy producing country lies a charming, arty town perched on the banks of the Tweed River 15 minutes from the north coast of New South Wales. Surrounded by rainforests and looking out over a breeze ruffled river twinkling in the sun, Murwillumbah or Murbah is it is affectionately known by its 7,500 residents, is the ideal holiday destination for those who want to explore the countryside and get away from it all. Close to the beach, a hop, skip and jump away from no less than 5 national parks and right the heart of Mother Nature's finest rolling green hills and gently flowing rivers, there isn't a reason not to visit Murwillumbah.
The weather here is hot and wet during the summer, which is perfect for washing away the dust and keep in the heat at bay. The winter months can still be pleasant enough for exploring. Summer runs from October to March and brings temperatures into the 40 degrees C at times. Winter has temperatures cooling off to 15 degrees C going up to 20 degrees C.
Murwillumbah has been determined as one of the top 10 places to live in Australia. It is also the 8th place mentioned in the original Australian version of the song 'I've been everywhere'.
