There are generally two type of awnings, fixed and retractable. Fixed awnings are always in place whereas retractable awnings can be moved in and out of place depending on the weather conditions.
Awnings are often made from fabric or cloth but can also be made from metals or plastics.
These awnings can be moved either manually, usually with a handle or alternatively you can get motorised awnings which have a controller that allows you to move the awning in and out. Some of the motorised awnings also come with a wind speed monitor that can automatically retract the awning if the wind speed gets too high.
