Our Story
Bojangles Dance is a family owned dance school in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs that was established by Michelle Rogers in 2004. Fun, family and learning through exploration are central to our philosophy. Our dance classes are kept small to ensure that each child receives the care and attention they deserve. This also helps establish the connection between teacher and student that is imperative for children to feel valued.
The focus is on fun
We believe, above all, that dancing should be fun. Fun is at the heart of what it means to be a child - to be free, happy and full of energy. When children are having fun they are motivated, engage with the lesson and remember much more of the experience. When a dance class is taught through fun, it doesn't feel like a lesson - everything becomes play. When children play they are not afraid of taking risks, exploring, making mistakes and trying again.
Movement, music and magic should be a part of every child's life
Dance classes provide children with a unique opportunity to combine learning, exercise and art. We encourage children to express themselves through dance, feel the music and allow their individual style and personality to shine through.
Younger children will learn dance technique with the aid of fairy dust, imaginary balloons and the occasional monster to be chased away. They will explore musical concepts and will experiment with characterisation - developing different characters to match the music. Over time, children will naturally integrate these skills into their dancing and performance.
Older children will learn the magic of how the body works - how different muscles control each and every movement that our bodies make. They will learn that, just like training a new puppy, it takes time and practice to teach these muscles to work the way you want them to and teaching your body with love and kindness is always the best approach.
