
Devonport is the largest city in the north-west of Tasmania it is roughly a half hour drive from Burnie. Visitor who come by the Spirit of Tasmania ferries to Tasmania from Melbourne will recognise this location as the port where the ferries arrive and depart. Devonport also has a flight service from Melbourne which runs several times per day.
The Devonport port is quite busy and is used to move farming and manufacturing output to sea. Tourism is a large economic provider for Devonport and surrounding areas. There is much employment to service this growing sector.

When traveling through to Launceston from Devonport along the Bass Highway the town of Latrobe is worth a visit, there are many small arts and craft businesses and specialty food places to visit. A stop at Deloraine off the highway is also a nice place to visit to break up the trip.
