Good to Know
Every year in September, the heart of Chatswood is taken over by the ever popular and exciting Willoughby Spring Festival. Lasting for a month, there are many exciting events taking place, exhibitions, live music shows, cultural and business activities as well as the super popular street fair. Look out for market stalls, musicians, dancers, performers and hundreds of delicious food stalls. Definitely not something to be missed, even if you are just passing through Sydney to see the iconic sights.
Things to See and Do in Chatswood
The Beaches - Just kilometres away from the beaches of the North Shore, visitors can pick and choose their favourite stretch of sand. The beaches of Manly are the closest and there are some great surfing areas amongst them.
Beauchamp Park - Just a few minutes' walk from the centre of town, the gardens of Beauchamp Park are situated next to a big sporting oval. Perfect to take the kids to on a hot day, there are plenty of picnic tables and large shady areas surrounded by red river gums. There is a sculpture garden and a playground as well.
Chatswood Mall Market - Every Thursday and Friday all day until 9pm at night, there is a large market running all the way from the Chatswood station. Nicknamed the Melody Market, for its huge amount of buskers that can be found in between the fantastic stalls, here you can buy just about anything - homemade food items, cupcakes, candy fruit, art, plants, jewellery, crafts, mementoes and even bonsais. Great place for an epic culinary feast.
Luna Park, Sydney - The authentic and vintage amusement park in Sydney has become part of the city's cultural heritage. Situated on the harbour foreshore - it is a centre of delight and entertainment for all ages. There are fun rides, concerts, shows, restaurants, cafes, bars and plenty of places for you and the kids to have a ball of a time.
Sydney Aquarium - Being home to more than 13,000 animals including sharks and rays, visitors of all ages will be blown away by the dramatic marine aquatic and fresh water displays. Go through the Shark Walk, take the kids to the interactive Discovery Rock Pool, see the south coast shipwreck and wander through the Mangrove Swamps.
The Concourse - A cultural platform for entertainment, the Concourse is a huge theatre and concert hall on the North Shore. Grab the chance to get tickets to see international touring companies, like the English National Ballet.
Culinary Heaven - Chatswood has a booming Asian community and most certainly holds the honour of having some of the best Asian food eateries anywhere outside of central Sydney. Some of the biggest names in Asian restaurants can be found here, including Kam Fook, Mamak and New Shanghai.
Shopping - If you are a retail therapy enthusiast, then Chatswood will be a virtual heaven. With 4 large shopping districts, there are plenty of hidden-away boutiques, and delightful retail stores just waiting for you and your credit card to descend.
Rail to River Walk - Fancy a bit of a leisurely walk from the railway station to Lane Cove River? This is the perfect walk taking approximately 2.5 hours. Breathtaking with loads of picnic spots and lush forest vegetation, it is a journey for the soul as much as the body and the mind.
